Book jacket design for Arroyo Circle by JoeAnn Hart

Eco-novel Arroyo Circle masterfully illustrates the role of humanity and late-stage capitalism in the earth’s decay through a thrilling story set in Boulder, Colorado. With wildfires raging across the Front Range, floods decimating homes and lives along the creek, and the COVID-19 pandemic wreaking rampant catastrophe, author JoeAnn Hart illuminates the spiritual connectedness of chance occurrences and weaves a powerful tale of strife, introspection, and reclamation.

Hart constructs unique, desperate, often humorous encounters poised on the edge of environmental catastrophe. Through my research for this project, I expanded upon significant through lines and visual cues from the book to create my designs. My final work conveys through carefully selected imagery the impermanence / fragility of consumerism touched upon by the book and the endurance of the natural world. My early compositions and process work are displayed below in addition to my final drafts and interior designs.
